Many of those 588 deaths were preventable. Some of them were caused by speeding while others were a result of drunk driving, drugged driving, distracted driving, or not wearing a seat belt. Tragically, these deaths affect many lives and cause great pain to thousands of people throughout Wisconsin. Fortunately, you can help change that number, and Zero in Wisconsin means just that.
The Wisconsin DOT and our traffic safety partners are working to help save lives and reduce the number of traffic deaths annually in Wisconsin through programs and messaging including Drive Sober or get Pulled Over, Texting while Driving/Distracted Driving, Child Safety Seat Installation, Motorcycle Safety, and Click it or Ticket Seat Belt Safety.
In Wisconsin, any preventable traffic death is one too many. By staying within the speed limit, remembering to drive sober, and remembering to buckle up every ride in every seat, you can do simple things that can turn nearly 500 annual deaths into none. Together, we can work to achieve zero deaths on Wisconsin roadways.
If you have a smartphone, you can now download the free DRIVE SOBER app on the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can use the Blood Alcohol Estimator to find out if you’re sober enough to drive, select a sober driver with the Designated Driver Selector, choose your ride and get home safely with the Find a Ride feature, report a drunk driver, and more.
