Wisconsin Traffic Safety

Highway safety — it's in your hands

Nationally, over 90 percent of traffic crashes involve driver error. This means the majority of crashes, injuries and deaths along our highways are totally preventable and a direct result of motorists making dangerous and irresponsible decisions. This includes speeding, failure to wear a safety belt, along with drunk, drugged or distracted driving. Crash-related injuries and deaths impact not only the victims, but also families, friends and employers. Fortunately, enhancing highway safety is literally in our hands, but it requires every driver and passenger to do their part by being safe and responsible.

The Wisconsin DOT and our traffic safety partners are dedicated to saving lives and preventing injuries through high-visibility law enforcement efforts combined with public outreach efforts. This includes Drive Sober or get Pulled Over, Texting while Driving/Distracted Driving, Child Safety Seat Installation, Motorcycle Safety, and Click it or Ticket Seat Belt Safety campaigns.

Any preventable traffic death or injury is one too many. Please join us in reminding all motorists to abide speed limits, drive sober, alert and buckle up — every seat, every trip. Thanks for helping us improve safety along Wisconsin roadways.

Don’t be a daredevil – get home safe!
